Writers are the Narrators of History

Important Information:

The Black Writers Museum will suspend all activity and will be closed to public tours and visits until further notice because of the global pandemic and national impact of the novel coronavirus. We will, and urge others to, continue to follow all of the CDC, State and Local protocol for public activity and engagement. For updates concerning BWM re-opening, programming, and exhibits, please check our website  at www.blackwritersmuseum.com.

This is a difficult time for us all. We encourage you to be mindful of the most vulnerable in our community, including our elderly, children, and those suffering from pre-existing conditions. We look forward to opening and continuing to provide a safe and educational institution for our youth and those who love literature and history.

For more information regarding this rapidly changing situation go to www.phila.gov/COVID-19 or for mobil updates text COVID-19 to 888-777.

Sincerely,
Supreme Divine-Dow
Executive Director/Curator, Black Writers Museum

Welcome to The Black Writers Museum!

The Black Writers Museum (BWM) is housed at the historic Vernon House in the middle of the beautiful Vernon Park, and sits along a corridor of a series of Philadelphia's National Landmarks in historic Germantown.

As the only museum of its kind in America, the BWM provides exhibits of classic and contemporary Black Literature and its authors, exposing visitors to generations of history as written by some of America's most prominent literary composers.

Housing collections of first edition and autographed books, rare newspapers and documents, photographs, paintings, journals, magazines, manuscripts, recordings, and more, the BWM brings history and culture to life.

BWM is a program partner of the Urban Affairs Coalition, its fiscal sponsor. All donations are tax deductible to the extent of the law.
